TAXATION: Reducing the Tax Burden

Bermudians have paid far more taxes than necessary under the PLP Government, and had less money left over for themselves.

Annual payroll tax revenue has shot up from $150 mi l lion in 1998 to $270 million in 2006, an increase of 80 percent. Land tax has doubled, from $26 million to $52 million, during the same period.

Although many of our countrymen can shoulder the tax increases, many low-income earners are falling behind.

The next United Bermuda Party government will help ease the burden on struggling Bermudians by putting more money in their hands. We will begin by:

  • • Eliminating the payroll tax for any person earning $42,000 or less.
