Economy - PLP misleading again…this time over civil servants

Thursday, December 13, 2007

By The United Bermuda Party

Contrary to the deliberately misleading suggestions by PLP candidates Neville Tyrell and Walton Brown, the United Bermuda Party has no plans to fire any civil servants.

Based on an interview party leader Michael Dunkley did with Gary Moreno of ZBM, Mr. Tyrell asks if Mr. Dunkley is “planning to fire thousands of Bermudians”.

The United Bermuda Party is not planning to fire any civil servants.

The interview will be running again on Monday and the United Bermuda Party invites Bermudians to listen to the interview for themselves rather than rely on PLP misinformation.

Typically, rather than deal with the fact that spending has spiraled out of control in the past nine years, the PLP have once again tried to mislead voters.

Before adding any further civil service jobs, the United Bermuda Party will make a clear assessment to make sure they are needed. That’s the difference. The United Bermuda Party is prudent with the people’s money while the PLP has a track record of reckless overspending.

The United Bermuda Party values the excellent contribution the civil service has made to making Bermuda a success.

The next United Bermuda Party government looks forward to having a close and fruitful working relationship with the BPSU and other trade unions after the election.

Unlike the PLP, we will have open and honest dialogue with trade unions and all other partners in the decision-making process.

The United Bermuda Party once again calls on the PLP to stop the distortions and misinformation because the voters of Bermuda deserve better.
